I am a huge fan of Pidgin. It just works with everything I need. I use AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Gmail, Myspace, etc. all with ease. It's not bloated like all of the rest of the software out there and it just works well. It has all of the features you want: away, file transfer, buddy icons, etc. Oh, and there's no ads and it's free!!
